Position: SAILBOAT RIGGER Technician

Description : Larsen Marine Service, Inc. has an outstanding career opportunity available at our full-service marine center located in Waukegan, IL. We are a family-owned certified marine dealership, located on Waukegan Harbor midway between Chicago and Milwaukee. We provide secure off-season storage for more than 800 boats. We are seeking a motivated person to join our team of the best marine professionals serving both power and sailboats for Lake Michigan boaters.
We have a full-time position available for a Sailboat Rigger Technician. This is an opportunity to work with skilled technicians who can share their expertise to help you hone your skills. Riggers effectively install, maintain, repair, and replace sailboat rigging and sail systems. Candidates must be mechanically inclined and experienced in the use of basic hand tools, air tools, and electric power tools. Candidates should also have an aptitude for working on boats, ability to follow instructions and procedures thoroughly, and ability to prioritize, organize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Qualifications include a positive attitude and willingness to learn, follow safety guidelines, good verbal and written communication skills, must be team oriented, and able to work some Saturdays. Must able to move, twist and climb ladders, have the ability to lift 50 or more pounds, and work in all weather conditions. Boating experience and sailboat knowledge is preferred.
Responsibilities include stepping and unstepping masts, tune standing rigging, connect and troubleshoot mast lights and wiring, install booms, sails, and running rigging along with rope splicing, servicing winches, and servicing furling systems. Overtime may be required during our seasonal peek workloads in the spring and fall.

Position: Marine Electronics Technician

Description : We are seeking full-time year-round Electrronic technicians with a backround in marine or related industry (auto, aviation, heavy equipment) with experience as a systems technician, mechanic or electrician.  ABYC or USCG Electrical certifications is a plus as is experience accompanying marine systems, wiring and interfacing marine electronics.  A qualified candidate must be able to read wiring diagrams and assembly prints, have a high attention to detail, be quality conscious and have the ability to meet deadlines.  Hands on experience with manufacturers such as Raymarine, Garmin, KVH, B&G, Simrad is beneficial. Salaries are competitive and based on experience.

Position: Marine Mechanic / Technician

Description:  We are seeking full -time year-round marine mechanics at intermediate or advanced levels with a backround in inboard, stern drive and/or outboard engines.  Applicants should have the ability to perform accurate diagnosis and trouble shooting in addition to repair and maintenance of marine diesel and gasoline engines, transmission, drive train and related electrical equipment.  Duties also include seasonal preventive maintenance such as oil changes, belt and hose replacements, winterize engines, etc.  Salaries are competitive and based on experience.

Position: Marine Electrician

Description:  We are seeking full -time year-round Marine Electrician able to perform troubleshooting and repair of 12-volt and 110-volt electrical systems, ability to install new electrical circuits, demonstrate good judgement and problem-solving skills and abilities; ability to install marine electronics such as radios, depth finders, Global Positioning System (GPS) instruments, autopilots, radar equipment, etc.  Ability to install mechanical equipment such as 110-volt power generators, air conditioning systems, water pumps, anchor windlass, and others as assigned.  Ability to diagnose and repair 110-volt generator systems, ability to do minor woodworking on an as needed basis with installation of equipment and the ability to do some mechanical repairs on boat equipment.  Salaries are competitive and based on experience.

Position: Yacht Sales/Broker

Description:  We have an immediate opening for a full-time Yacht Sales/Broker for high-end new boat and brokerage boat sales.  This is an excellent opportunity to work for a growing and well-respected firm ideally located on Lake Michigan.  We are the exclusive new boat dealer for Jeanneau and Blue Jacket Sailboats and also offer Crownline powerboats.  There is even a greater reach for pre-owned brokerage boats.  The range of used and brokered boats includes high quality performance and cruising vessels, most of which are in inventory or on-site at our yard and at our docks.  Candidates must have the ability to apply professional skills to the boat selling and client service process including establishing and executing aggressive sales plans, cultivate and maintain customer relationships, maintain and grow a lead base by learning and utilizing all available technology, be detail oriented with experience in sales and a proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales goals desired.  Requirements also include computer and modern communications skills, ability to climb ladders and able to pull, push and lift 50 lbs, have enthusiasm for boating, and be performance driven and results oriented.

Position: Fiberglass and Paint Technician

Description: We have a full-time position available for a Fiberglass & Paint Technician to preform both structural and cosmetic fiberglass repairs and painting of boats. Applicants should have experience and the ability to prep and paint a full or partial deck and/or hull with epoxy primers and polyurethane paints using conventional and spray applications, color and gel-coat restoration and matching, and custom structural glass work and modifications. Applicants must be able to walk, bend, stand, stoop, climb and work safely around water, on a ladder, or in confined spaces for extended periods of time.  Minimum qualifications include two years of experience in fiberglass repair and paint finish application, must have own hand tools, must be able to read English to follow instructions on work orders.

We are seeking full-time Marine Diesel technician at intermediate or advanced levels with a background in diesel engines. Applicants should have the ability to perform accurate diagnosis and troubleshooting in addition to repair and maintenance of diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, generators and related electrical equipment. Duties also include seasonal preventive maintenance such as oil changes, belt and hose replacements, winterize engines, etc. Candidates must have their own tools. Must have ability to use hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things. At times very tight working areas are necessary. Must be able to climb ladders and able to pull, push, and lift 50 lbs. Saturdays are required during peak seasons in spring and fall.
Experience in electrical and other common boat systems are all highly desired. Volvo Penta, Westerbeke, Yanmar, Kohler, and other major marine manufacturer training and certifications will reach top consideration and pay. Salaries are competitive and based on experience. Position: Parts Counter Associate

Description: We have a full-time position available for a Parts Counter Associate. The successful candidate will be outgoing and personable, professional, disciplined and have a great attitude. Boating, RV, Farming or Auto parts knowledge or experience is a definite plus. Qualifications include good computer skills, able to work independently, good communication and phone skills, be detail oriented, a team player, have good physical mobility and able to work Saturdays during our busy seasons. Responsibilities include daily retail counter parts sales, cash register use and answering phones. Also responsible for monitoring inventory levels, pulling parts for specific work orders, issuing parts to technicians, utilizing the phone and internet to source best prices for parts, shipping and receiving parts, follow up on back-ordered parts, and prepare and cost out parts invoices and quotes. Overtime may be required during our seasonal peak work load in the spring and fall. Must also pass a background and drug test.
